going around and coming around

Posted on | November 30, 2005 | 3 Comments

Great news—my girl Kelly found a job, my girl Zoe has been chosen to represent in the Whitney Biennial, I started making photographs in earnest again, and I get to work only 4 miles from my house—no more driving (though I will miss the compellingly terrible Andrea Lewis and the sublimely crazy Dennis Bernstein)! They have gotten me through the commuting these past months, but hey, at least both shows now have Podcasts (and I have an iPod that I’m going to learn to download to one day).

2005 has sucked for more of us than George Clooney, but there have been glimmers.

Oh, and little Luc is home recovering nicely from his surgery.

Congrats to Zoe for the Whitney news, to you for the easier commute and for Luc’s continued improvement. Maybe the goodness with help us close the chapter on this exceptionally challenging (and often downright devastating) year and springboard us nicely into 2006.

Thanks for the shout out about my job, btw. :)

Ditto plus congrats to Kelly too!

And there are always the KPFA archives. The best descriptions of Andrea and Dennis ever! I hook up to a KPFA archive daily (if not a live stream online).

Carla, I am so glad you are making photos “in earnest again.” That is good news!

  • CARLAGIRL PHOTO was founded on 14 February 1999 by Carla Willliams, a photographer, writer, and editor, born, raised and heading back to (yea!) Los Angeles, California.

It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.

Site visitors will probably notice that I haven’t updated here frequently. I am taking a break from my site(s) for at least the summer. I’ve been working in this field for 25 years and I’m burned out on photography and art, the site(s) are in need of major updates/ revamping/ retooling, social media is exhausting, [...] […]

Danielle was briefly a contributor to this site; I am very excited to hear about her latest venture, the collective and now journal Mambu Badu “that seek to find, expose, and nurture emerging female photographers of African descent.”  Congrats, Danielle! As you may (or may not) know, last fall, I co-founded Mambu Badu, a photography collective […]
