okay, so carla, you got me hooked on perez (the other place where i saw this image), but have you noticed how messed up his shit has been lately? i just can’t enjoy him defending gwen stefani’s harajuku girl routine (using asian women as pets, as someone i know so aptly put it), and now there’s this photoshop stuff with aaron carter. rasta gear and blackface-aaron and crew for kicks?

that shit’s not funny. am i wrong?

    p.s. i love you

No, I’m with you–he’s said some very unsupportable things, especially the whole Harajuku girl post (and as I recall he also took a swipe at the sublime Miss Margaret Cho in the process). And really, anyone who would actually spend time with Paris Hilton doesn’t deserve our respect, or 15 minutes each day.

Try http://trent.blogspot.com/ In the midst of the Britney adulation (though I’ve frequently wanted to call him out for worshipping the Republican Hilary Duff) he even recognized Tookie Williams a couple of times, so you gotta love him for that. And besides, he got himself photographed with his dream boy Jake Gyllenhaal (even though I think Brokeback Mountain looks sweepingly boring) at the same opening where Perez missed Jake altogether, so how cool is that?

    I love you, too!

Were it not for my new day job, I’d like to think I would be over it, too. As it is, it keeps me awake.

  • CARLAGIRL PHOTO was founded on 14 February 1999 by Carla Willliams, a photographer, writer, and editor, born, raised and heading back to (yea!) Los Angeles, California.

It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.

Site visitors will probably notice that I haven’t updated here frequently. I am taking a break from my site(s) for at least the summer. I’ve been working in this field for 25 years and I’m burned out on photography and art, the site(s) are in need of major updates/ revamping/ retooling, social media is exhausting, [...] […]

Danielle was briefly a contributor to this site; I am very excited to hear about her latest venture, the collective and now journal Mambu Badu “that seek to find, expose, and nurture emerging female photographers of African descent.”  Congrats, Danielle! As you may (or may not) know, last fall, I co-founded Mambu Badu, a photography collective […]
