Deirdre was going through some old stuff from grad school and came across a student’s quiz where they’d been asked to define “art canon”:

‘Art canon’ means one who creates art excessively. It is he who makes artwork that is both stunning and explosive (hence, the word, ‘canon’). It is the artist that makes work that just has such a great impact on you that it changes your life forever. You become so disoriented with how moving the work is that you have no choice but to say something about it.”

    It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.
