Tonight’s Screening at NOCCA Will Go On! Saturday Screenings Cancelled

Posted on | August 29, 2008 | No Comments

NOCCA is going on with the screening tonight to commemorate the 3rd year post-Katrina anniversary. Co-directors, Dawn Logsdon and Lolis Eric Elie, along with producer Lucie Faulknor will be in attendance for a Q&A . Following the Q&A, June Bug Productions, John O’Neil’s groundbreaking African American theater troupe, will be coordinating story circles where people can share their own experiences of Hurricane Katrina, their concerns about Hurricane Gustav, and talk about issues brought up by the film. Refreshments will be served.

The Saturday screenings have been cancelled. The Dillard screening is tentatively re-scheduled for Sept. 6th, God willing. Christian Unity Baptist Church will be re-scheduled at a later date. We’ll keep you posted.

Please feel free to forward this on to people who will still be in town.

Everybody be safe and say a prayer for New Orleans.

Dawn, Lolis and Lucie

  • CARLAGIRL PHOTO was founded on 14 February 1999 by Carla Willliams, a photographer, writer, and editor, born, raised and heading back to (yea!) Los Angeles, California.

It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.

I’ve been working in this field for 25 years and I’m burned out on photography and art, the site(s) are in need of major updates/ revamping/ retooling, social media is exhausting, [...] […]

Danielle was briefly a contributor to this site; I am very excited to hear about her latest venture, the collective and now journal Mambu Badu “that seek to find, expose, and nurture emerging female photographers of African descent.”  Congrats, Danielle! As you may (or may not) know, last fall, I co-founded Mambu Badu, a photography collective […]
