$5 “art”

Check the button in the lower right corner–it’s a limited edition by Kara Walker for the Gap’s Vote campaign. I spotted them in the window at the store in Palo Alto, California, so, yes, I bought the Walker one.

More About the Limited-Edition Artist Buttons:

Gap has enlisted renowned artists including Fab5Freddy, John Baldessari, Adam Pendleton, Kara Walker, Nate Lowman, John Waters, Deborah Kass, Assume Vivid Astro Focus, Laurie Simmons and Sean Landers to express themselves by designing a limited edition “Vote for” button. Limited edition buttons are now available in Gap’s premier stores nationwide for $5 each. $1 of every purchase will be donated to Declare Yourself, a non-profit and non-partisan campaign encouraging people to register to vote. Also starting today, check out eBay to bid on an exclusive set of the limited-edition buttons autographed by the artists. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Declare Yourself.

The nice thing is that these are not specific to any one election, although we’re down to the wire on this one. I’ll be working the polls next week. I can’t wait for it to be over.

  • CARLAGIRL PHOTO was founded on 14 February 1999 by Carla Willliams, a photographer, writer, and editor, born, raised and heading back to (yea!) Los Angeles, California.

It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.

I’ve been working in this field for 25 years and I’m burned out on photography and art, the site(s) are in need of major updates/ revamping/ retooling, social media is exhausting, [...] […]

Danielle was briefly a contributor to this site; I am very excited to hear about her latest venture, the collective and now journal Mambu Badu “that seek to find, expose, and nurture emerging female photographers of African descent.”  Congrats, Danielle! As you may (or may not) know, last fall, I co-founded Mambu Badu, a photography collective […]
