help a sista out

(My sister, to be exact, who’s doing a good thing. Go, Shawna!)

No amount is too small. Won’t you please make a donation before Friday, November 14th?

Did you know that more than 40% of the chronically homeless in Los Angeles are African-American? And in the current economic climate we are already seeing signs that the poor in our community are going to need our steadfast support to make it through.

Homelessness is a huge challenge, but it can be solved. That is why I am participating in United Way’s 5K walk called HomeWalk on Saturday, November 15th to raise awareness of the crisis of homelessness and the funds to do something about it.

Thanks to the half a million dollars raised at last year’s walk, over 2,300 homeless people will move off the streets and into permanent housing over the next twelve months.

This year, we want to do even more. I have committed to raise $500 to help homeless families find housing and provide permanent housing with supportive services like job training and substance abuse programs to the chronically homeless.

But I need your help to do it.

Please help to end homelessness by making a donation to HomeWalk through my webpage at www.homewalkla.org.

More than 152,000 people experience homelessness in Los Angeles County each year. I am walking for them. Will you help me?

Sincerely,

Shawna Williams
