Residency opportunities & call for entries

Posted on | January 26, 2009 | No Comments

Arrowmont’s Artist-In-Residency Program application deadline is February 1, 2009.  Please share with any students seeking an opportunity to develop work while living in a creative, supportive community environment.

Total benefits associated with the Residency Program value over $11,500 per resident. This includes a $300.monthly stipend, private studio, housing, professional development funds, exhibition opportunities and all meals (provided during our spring, summer and fall sessions).

The Arrowmont Residency Program provides a variety of opportunities in the way of professional development, teaching and gallery experience and interaction with professional artists, educators and students who attend Arrowmont each year. Established in 1991, the program is designed for pre-professional, self-directed artists who are at transitional junctures in their careers.

For a more comprehensive description of the program, facilities, privileges, responsibilities and the application form, please visit:

Anderson Ranch offers an Artists’ Residency program designed to encourage the creative, intellectual and personal growth of emerging and established visual artists. Finalists are chosen on the basis of artistic merit by an independent jury of established working artists and will live and work at Anderson Ranch for a two or three month residency. Resident artists will be provided with housing, studio space, meals and certain other benefits and will be required to submit only a nominal program fee of $100.

The fourteen fall residents were unanimous in their feelings about their experience at the Ranch. “Generous”, “inspiring”, “professional”, “motivating”, “productive” and “amazing” were just a few of the words the residents used to describe their experiences.

The program is designed to allow artists to take risks and pursue new projects and ideas, free from every day pressures. Take advantage of this incredible opportunity to share in an established community of interaction, conceptual development and intense production of work.  APPLY NOW!

THE CALL: In BED we procreate, communicate, masticate, investigate, commiserate, elucidate, migrate, hibernate, masturbate, educate, ruminate.  We all have BED but it’s mostly hidden away in a remote room upstairs in our houses or in the back room of our apartments. BED is rarely discussed, is mostly taken for granted, yet we use it more than anything else in the house, spending perhaps one third of our lifetime there.

BED is where we cavort, entertain and are entertained, where we eat, sleep, talk on the phone, read, watch TV, dream, hang out, escape to. We live much of our life there, mostly our private lives, including dying.
We want to see your photos of your BED (and/or others) and what you do while you are there. Make them as personal, fun, interesting, beautiful, startling as you can, no subject is out of bounds.

  • CARLAGIRL PHOTO was founded on 14 February 1999 by Carla Willliams, a photographer, writer, and editor, born, raised and heading back to (yea!) Los Angeles, California.

It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.

I’ve been working in this field for 25 years and I’m burned out on photography and art, the site(s) are in need of major updates/ revamping/ retooling, social media is exhausting, [...] […]

Danielle was briefly a contributor to this site; I am very excited to hear about her latest venture, the collective and now journal Mambu Badu “that seek to find, expose, and nurture emerging female photographers of African descent.”  Congrats, Danielle! As you may (or may not) know, last fall, I co-founded Mambu Badu, a photography collective […]
