This event is free and open to the public.

The inaugural exhibition at Kala’s expanded new gallery located at 2990 San Pablo Avenue includes a Panel Discussion on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 pm.

Panel Moderator, René de Guzman, Senior Curator of Art, Oakland Museum of California, will be in conversation with a group of artists included in the gallery’s current exhibition titled re:con-figure. Artists Adriane Colburn, collaborative team Scott Kildall and Victoria Scott, Leslie Shows and Bayeté Ross Smith will be discussing topics ranging from on-line art practices; media transformation; and issues involving the appropriation of images and even context. Join us for an engaging evening of dialogue with René de Guzman and artists.

If you haven’t seen re:con-figure, please come early to check out the show and grab a seat before the event starts at 7:00 pm.

  • CARLAGIRL PHOTO was founded on 14 February 1999 by Carla Willliams, a photographer, writer, and editor, born, raised and heading back to (yea!) Los Angeles, California.

    It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.
