Dress Code review in NYT

One of the shows I saw last weekend in NYC was “Dress Codes,” ICP’s triennial exhibition, which includes work by Hank Willis Thomas, Mickalene Thomas, Stan Douglas, Grace Ndiritu, Wangechi Mutu, Kalup Linzy, and Lorna Simpson. It just opened and is open through January 2010. There’s a catalog and fantastic gin & tonic glasses with text by Hank and tote bags with Mickalene Thomas’ images. Of course, I had to get one of the bags. UPDATE: The special Triennial merchandise will be available online by Friday!

Here’s an excerpt:
There’s more to see. I recommend Hank Willis Thomas’s altered photographs; the sexually charged yet chaste photo collages of Wangechi Mutu; and, for summoning the standards of decorum and beauty of earlier eras, Lorna Simpson’s evocative found photographs of black women and Tanya Marcuse’s grisaille platinum-palladium photographs of bustles, bustiers and armor.
