Posted on | December 15, 2009 | No Comments

ArtTable, the leadership organization for professional women in the visual arts, would like to invite female students who are seniors, recent graduates, or graduate students from your institution to apply for our  Summer Mentored Internship for Diversity in the Visual Arts Professions ( html).

The program was created to acquaint emerging women professionals with the range of opportunities available to them and is intended to support women from backgrounds generally underrepresented in the field.  ArtTable is dedicated to supporting women at all stages of their careers and to assuring a racially, ethnically, geographically, economically and age diverse art community.  Through one-on-one mentoring relationships with ArtTable members, interns have the opportunity to work with an established leader in the field and gain exposure to a range of professional activities. Each intern receives a $3000 stipend for eight weeks of work and will be responsible for securing housing during the internship.

ArtTable plans to host interns in New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle as well as New Orleans and Philadelphia (pending funding) in the summer of 2010.  Previous internship sites include: Louisiana Artworks, LA; Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, CA; Creative Time, NY; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, CA; Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington, D.C.; Museum of Arts and Design, NY; Museum of Craft and Folk Art, San Francisco, CA; National Museum of American History, Washington, D.C.; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and Santa Monica Art Museum, CA; among others.

    • I’d call this a rave review December 19, 2009
From today’s New York Times (congrats, Deb!): Whether the lashed back of an enslaved person, the charred remains of a lynching victim or a terrified marcher fleeing a fire hose, shocking images of degradation seem to dominate the visual history of the African-American experience. Amid so much hardship, one might wonder what, if anything, to say [...] […]
