ArtTable Summer Mentored Internship for Diversity in the Visual Arts Professions

Posted on | December 15, 2009 | 1 Comment

ArtTable, the leadership organization for professional women in the visual arts, would like to invite female students who are seniors, recent graduates, or graduate students from your institution to apply for our  Summer Mentored Internship for Diversity in the Visual Arts Professions (www.arttable.org/mentoring. html).

The program was created to acquaint emerging women professionals with the range of opportunities available to them and is intended to support women from backgrounds generally underrepresented in the field.  ArtTable is dedicated to supporting women at all stages of their careers and to assuring a racially, ethnically, geographically, economically and age diverse art community.  Through one-on-one mentoring relationships with ArtTable members, interns have the opportunity to work with an established leader in the field and gain exposure to a range of professional activities. Each intern receives a $3000 stipend for eight weeks of work and will be responsible for securing housing during the internship.

ArtTable plans to host interns in New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle as well as New Orleans and Philadelphia (pending funding) in the summer of 2010.  Previous internship sites include: Louisiana Artworks, LA; Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, CA; Creative Time, NY; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, CA; Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington, D.C.; Museum of Arts and Design, NY; Museum of Craft and Folk Art, San Francisco, CA; National Museum of American History, Washington, D.C.; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and Santa Monica Art Museum, CA; among others.

To be eligible, applicants must be female students who are college seniors, recent graduates, or graduate students seeking career opportunities in the visual arts professions, and must represent an ethnic, racial, cultural or financial background that is underrepresented in the field.

* Please post this flyer on career development bulletins or distribute amongst your students.
* An application is available here for distribution, and is available through our website (www.arttable.org) or by calling 212-343-1735, ext. 25.
* The deadline for students to submit applications is February 1, 2010.

We thank you in advance for promoting ArtTable’s Summer Mentored Internship for Diversity in the Visual Arts Professions to your students. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the number above or by emailing lmeli@arttable.org.
