I’m quite behind in updates, but I’d better start with this

(I edit their journal, exposure, I’m on a panel on Friday, “Unexpected Desire,” with Coco Fusco, Hank Willis Thomas, Wafaa Bilal, David Graham, Phyllis Galembo, and Deb Willis, who is also the honored educator, and lots of other great folks will be there this weekend.)

SPE’s 47th National Conference in Philadelphia, “Facing Diversity: Leveling the Playing Field in the Photographic Arts,” will examine how photographers of diverse backgrounds participate in the art world today and how these artists are being received. The conference will look at inclusivity, diversity within diversity, and the various perspectives on the changing cultural dynamics of this country. It strives to bring together curious minds in celebration of the achievements by artists of all backgrounds.

  • CARLAGIRL PHOTO was founded on 14 February 1999 by Carla Willliams, a photographer, writer, and editor, born, raised and heading back to (yea!) Los Angeles, California.

    It was established with two goals: to be able to make my own work widely available for free, and to make accessible my research about artists of the African Diaspora, especially photographers, and in particular women. As it developed it grew to also include GLBTQ artists.
