it's on, and it ain't like donkey kong

At first, I was gonna write about my disastrous haircut this weekend and how I went from finally almost liking my hair to looking unfortunately like Mystikal; and then, like a million other bloggers, I was all set to weigh in on the Oscars last night, and ask if anyone else stayed tuned long enough and listened carefully enough (over the orchestra) to hear Cathy Schulman, the producer of Crash give thanks "to my husband, to my wife, to all of our families" (we all heard it, and it's right there on the Oscars website)—I mean, if the gay film can't win at least she tried to get polyamory on the cultural map—but then South Dakota went and essentially banned abortion and so, really, who gives a fuck about my hair or the Oscars?

Wow, I totally missed that, Carla. Polyamory ain't my thing and I'm sure any fundies who listened more carefully than I did will jump on her comment as further reason to ban same-sex marriage.

I'm off to check both of those links and I still want to hear about your hair...

Nor is it mine, but a woman thanking her wife in front of millions is (if you leave out the husband, too, part)! I'm sure she'd planned for that to ring loud and clear but rambled too long beforehand and it got muffled.

You don't wanna know from the hair.

I asked someone at work about this and she said that she thought that the woman was thanking her co-producer's wife for him since the band was cutting her speech off before he had a chance to speak. I haven't had a chance to look at the clip yet.

As for the hair, you have to see me sometime, my dear, and I'm hoping sooner rather than later. :)

Indeed, we do have to make a plan to get together, but on the other point, no way! Deirdre offered up a similar rationalization and it doesn't hold water--she was all about the plural pronouns until then.

Look for an email or a call from me in the next day or so to set something up.

I just spotted this on Variety.com re: Cathy Schulman:

Crash" producer Cathy Schulman puzzled many when she thanked "my husband and my wife" onstage. Backstage, she said she misspoke and meant to thank her daughter. Writer Moresco observed, "I was sitting with her husband and he asked, 'Who's her wife?' "

I can see being nervous and all, but confusing "daughter" with "wife"? I smell something here.
