every day we tell kids they need to do x,y,z. it's always something wrong with them, esp. if they are kids of color. almost never does someone say there's absolutely nothing wrong with you; there's something wrong with a society that creates these kinds of crazy-making fucked-up relationships, asking those upon whom the greatest crimes are committed to rat each other out for peanuts. i don't even know where to begin, but this piece pretty much sums up why i am down for The remainder of this message has been removed by the Department of Homeland Security.
Yeah, I can't get this young man out of my mind. I came to it via a piece on blackcommentator.com by Margaret Kimberley about how Olympic medalist Julia Mancuso's father was a convicted drug dealer who did a couple of years and was allowed to keep millions of dollars in profits (which he used to set his daughter up with a car, trainer, and apartment in Austria so she could practice skiing) by ratting out everybody else.
