from the folks who brought you the weekend

Now, I don't pretend to understand everything (or anything) about unions, but how can striking be punishable with jail time? As the kids say, what in the crispy hell??? I know that the NY transit strike in December probably most negatively affected the working poor, but it's like having to compensate the big bosses for having some rights. Something not right.

I love Toussaint. He spoke at a rally with immigrants yesterday.
But this next story breaks my heart.
Did you read about Anthony Soltero? An 8th grader (14 yrs. old) who was one of the many, many youth who participated in student walk-outs to protest the racist immigration bill. Anthony was called into the Assistant Principal's office when he went back to school. He was told that his mom would be fined and that he would be sent to prison for 3 years for being one of the walk-out organizers. Anthony shot himself in the head. He died several days later.
That story is heart-breaking and infuriating. Are any charges being filed against the Assistant Principal? Can charges be filed at all?
Wow.
Oh, I hadn't heard about him. Such a beautiful, brave kid. This is devastating. I see they want to charge his stepfather with a felony for not having the gun locked up but there's no mention of charges against the administrators who threatened a child for standing up for his beliefs. Sadly, I can't even say it's unbelievable.
This site has some info for students about their rights:
