(I received this e-mail from sculptor Simone Leigh. I hate that her work got
destroyed but was glad it wasn't malicious and that no one was hurt.)
I can't help but think that Jerry Saltz put the mojo on me when he
wrote about putting humpty dumpty--in an art historical sense-- back
together again in his piece called 'Reconstruction Zone". (link below)
When I read it, I thought about whether I was doing that in my work. I
didn't mean it literally, but then my installation at the Wild Girls
show (Exit Art) was destroyed when the ceiling failed on Saturday
morning. No one was hurt.
You can see images of the work online during this NY 1 interview:

(if you have trouble download real player to see it)
I have already started to rebuild it the sculpture. For now, there is
a make-shift installation there called "Guiliani TIme" and two other
pieces.
The Wild Girls show has wonderful, wonderful work and I hope that
everyone of you will get to see it. It's up until Sept 4

yeah, I have a sculpture that I've been worried it might get destroyed, I live in the Midwest, I'm not afraid to express my outrage about how artist have been censored post-9/11. People just gotta keep their emotions in check, serious, other countries have dealt with terrorism by far longer than us, we're kind the new kids on the block, LONG PAST OUR DUES when it comes to all the PEOPLE WE PISS OFF AND PISS ON. but anyway, my sculpture is something that makes us think critically of patrioticism. I'm not afraid to go there, and religion is another one of those things that I try to get people thinking critically of, afterall, I'm Roman Catholic, and I hate how the Vatican is telling Catholics to boycott seeing "Da Vinci Code," by censoring people from free/public discourse, we look more like we have something to hide, perhaps there is a conspiracy/coverup that they don't want us to know about. lemme know.
